Avoiding Animal Dander

Pets can sometimes cause allergy problems. People can become allergic to parts of the animal's skin, saliva and waste products. Your doctor can do tests to see if you are allergic to your pet.

Here are some ways to control animal allergens:

• Remove the animal from the house if possible.
• If you are unable to remove your pet, keep them out of the bedroom and off of carpet and upholstered furniture.
• Wash the pet frequently. Have
  non-allergic family member groom
  the pet.
• Wash hands after playing with any pet.
• Choose a pet without fur or feathers.
• Avoid visits to friends or relatives with pets
